Dixie told us that something special was happening for breakfast Saturday. Al and Janny Townsend showed up with two big platters of home-made donuts! After breakfast we split up and did different things. Some people stayed at the Olive Branch and talked or went swimming. Several people went to the Alphabet Museum and I went see horse-back riding (Cherry's have several horses).
For lunch we had grilled hamburgers, along with chips and Inca Kola (I took 60 cans and 7 two-liter bottles with me). A bunch of people played volley-ball while other talked and I went for a motorcycle ride (Andrew drove from Tennessee on his motorcycle).
Everyone gathered at at Barkman's at 6:30 Saturday night for a dinner of Peruvian food. Steve Salibury made Anticuchos (with beef, cow heart, chicken and venison). Dixie made Ceviche and lasagna (for the spouses who weren't quite sure about the Peruvian food). Of course, there was Inca Kola left over from lunch. After eating and talking for quite awhile, we went down to Barkman's basement to watch some videos that had been made at Yarina. Most people drifted away by midnight, although Kate and Pris stayed up talking up until 5:00am!
Sunday morning we got together at the Olive Branch for breakfast, again. After breakfast, we did some singing and Butch Phaneuf spoke from Psalms 90, which was the text he used when he spoke at the 1987 graduation. The title was "Home isn't a place, it's a person", and he talked about how we've changed in the past 10 years, but we still have a common bond of living in Peru and in Christ. We then went to Ci-Ci's Pizza in Pineville for lunch and stayed for several hours talking. Unfortunately I had to leave before most of the other people, but some of them watched "Raiders of the Lost Ark" Sunday night.
Lewi was the only 1987 graduate who wasn't at the reunion. Denny (and other people) tried to contact him but were unable to. Other than missing him, the week-end was great for everyone. Denny and Dixie were the ones who did most of the planning, although a lot of people did work to make it a success: Janny Townsend made donuts; Phaneufs helped with feeding us and Barkmans loaned us their house for the evening. I'm not sure how Dixie arranged it, but the weather was great the entire week-end. Thanks, everyone! Hopefully it won't be 10 years before we get together again.
