Contracts and Celebrations

The following comes from the 40th Anniversary Photo Directory, S.I.L. in Peru, 1986, page 24.

June 26, 1945

Uncle Cam signed first contract with Ministry of Education.

April 1955

Peru Branch became chartered Branch with Harold Goodall as director.

June 1956

The 10th anniversary was celebrated in Lima with favorable press coverage; Tariri witnessed extensively both to the public and to officials. Uncle Cam and others had an opportunity to interview the President in the presence of his cabinet. The ILV reception was attended by many friends and officials.

June 1966

A special observance of our 20th anniversary in Peru.

February 4, 1971

Five-year contract renewal with the Ministry of Education, signed by Coronel EP Jose Guabloche, Director Superior.

November 29-December 3, 1971

25th anniversary plans include inauguration of the photo book collections and of bibliographical display at the National Library, a photo display and presentation of Bilingual Education to national educators and a linguistic program and reception at Lima House.

October 4, 1979

Signing of 10 year contract with Ministry of Education

November 1981

Celebration of 35 years in Peru. Uncle Cam and Elaine came for the ceremonies. CENTRAL CEREMONY at Lima attended by president Fernando Belaunde Terry who presented Uncle Cam with the ORDEN DEL SOL (highest service award given to a civilian in Peru).

Other activities include a reception at Lima House for the Christian community, a TV and newspaper press conference, and a luncheon at the palace for Uncle Cam and Elaine and other SIL members.

April 1986

Celebration of 40 years in Peru. The opening ceremony was at the National Library April 22. This marked the beginning of a two-week SIL exposition which included extensive displays of lanuage materials, a lighted map showing location of various groups, language tapes and slides. Later the same week there was a reception at Lima House. Various publications were prepared, including a photo documentary book. A reception was also held May 14 at Yarinacocha for friends and local authorities.
